Contagion’s Infectious Bacteria Billboard

Lukeandjules_contagion-billboardWarner Bros. Pictures Canada created this unique installation to support the film ‘Contagion’ released last year. The billboard was made by ad agency  Lowe Roche, CURB Media, microbiologists and immunologists using two large petri dishes inoculated with live bacteria including penicillin, mould and pigmented bacteria. The bacteria grew overnight to form the logo of the film.

I think it’s an amazing example of viral marketing! I especially love how the bacteria took time to grow and so created a sense of mystery and engagement with the public. It just ticks all the boxes for me!

Phew..! That was really tricky to write without descending into a deep pit of puns: ‘viral’, ‘contagious’, ‘spread’, ‘infectious’, ‘transmittable’… come on!
